Sorry

New Run Status: - ½ new-runs to go. Lynn made it to 50% with 5 days to spare before September. Yay!

Where did today’s new-run of For Better or For Worse come from? There are so many strange things about it:

1. John actually calls Michael on his bad behaviour and gives him a punishment.

2. John is not portrayed as an idiot, with little involvement with his kids.

3. You can actually look at Michael’s facial and body expressions in Panels 2 – 5 and read something there which goes along with the story.

4 You can actually read Lizzie’s facial and body expressions in Panels 1 – 3, and even Panel 5 to a certain degree. However, it would have been better if Lizzie had eyes in Panels 4 and 5.

5. Michael’s floral “sorry” is actually a unique and somewhat funny thing, not relying on a pun, bodily excretions, or looking down on someone.

6. John’s poorly-drawn face in all the panels, especially the mutant in Panel 4 doesn’t take away from the humour.

It’s been awhile since I have seen one of these – an original strip with original humour in it.

Too bad it's the only original new-ruin we're ever going to see; after this, it's old jokes and straight reprints.

Even though John's attempt to force an apology out of Mike was wrong-headed, it -was- well-intentioned, and he managed to do it without martyring himself, rolling his eyes, or shrieking to high heaven

Of course, Elly will never even realize that this situation was ultimately not caused by EvilMike, but by NegligentHer...nor will she EVER be called on it.

She'll berate John for how WRONG he did the punishment, then "fate" will provide what Elly considers to be the perfect discipline.

Man, though, what's up with those stairs? They're really, really steep, and the steps are shallow. Someone's going to get killed on those things one day. Unless Farley runs in to break their fall and get crushed to death in the process, I guess.

I don't think telling Michael to apologise was "wrong-headed" when my parents asked me or my sister to apologize and then "Say it and mean it!" what they meant was "Say it without sounding like a sarcastic little so and so" and I remember having this exact conversation with my parents (more than once) and my sister having that conversation too.

Eventually I learned that when I hurt someone's feelings, even if I was still irritated, that I should apologize and at least sound sincere in order to move away from the incident. This is actually a pretty common real life situation.

Do you think someone else wrote it while Lynn was taking a break?
