Pee on John, Not Elly

I think I had one of my biggest laughs in a long time with today’s For Better or For Worse. Thanks to aprilp_katje listing the reprint strips for Farley’s adoption, I knew that little Farley leaked on Elly on the way home from Mrs. Baird’s house. In today’s new-run / retcon, the person being leaked upon is not Elly but John Patterson. When I read that, I just burst out laughing. These new-runs have slammed or heaped abuses upon John Patterson over and over again as a mark of Lynn Johnston using the strip to heap abuses on her ex-husband represented by John Patterson. So, this time instead of Elly receiving the abuse, it will be John.

I suppose I should have guessed it would happen that way, given how John has been treated in the strip since last Septamber. But still, I laughed because there appears to be no lower limit to how far Lynn Johnston will go with using this strip as a means of revenge on the man.

Oh, just wait. Lynn loves toilet humor, so she may yet rerun the "Elly gets peed on" strip.

Especially since the final panel of that strip shows John being insensitive, with his comment about Elly wanting another baby.

What's more, he'll be a big honkin' hypocrite in the bargain. It's a bad thing if he gets widdled on but it's super-fab and groovy if it happens to Elly.

qnjones, aprilp_katje, dreadedcandiru2,

Good points all. When I consider that the strips left to be reprinted on the Farley adoption, ending with Elly carrying the dog home, will fill out the rest of the week, I suspect that you are right and Lynn will include them all. I guess from her perspective it’s OK for Elly to get urinated on as long as John gets urinated on first.

Well, can you blame Farley for being nervous about his new owners?

Cue a candid chat over coffee where Elly admits to Connie that she has always faked it.

The problem that faces us, of course, is that Lynn might want to pad things out even further. She seems to think that we're dying for all the details of how Farley became part of their lives even though we can pretty much fill in the blanks anyway. One key "blank" that won't be filled in is one that maggie_texas identified; the Pattersons seem relatively unconcerned about how the dog and Lizzie will get along. I don't care how well behaved a dog is, there's a thing that Lynn knows about that the Pattersons are ignorant of: a bite threshhold. Nobody seems to care about how safe the kid and dog will be because John and Elly are too busy scoring points off each other.

Heck, no. In fact this time around, Farley might be over there latching that fence to keep April from going to that ravine.

We should have had this strip already! Lynn Johnston is holding out on us!!

I don't think Elly would go to the trouble of faking it. That might make John think she likes sex, and encourage him to ask for it more often.

The opposite? "I had an orgasm with John the other night, but I pretended it was a problem with my sphincter, so he wouldn't get any ideas. I sphinct - I am not going to admit I enjoyed it. Why that would be like laughing at my son if started telling burping and farting jokes. That simply cannot be allowed."
