Schulz Did It Better
Today’s For Better or For Worse reminded me of a very famous strip sequence in Peanuts where Linus convinces Charlie Brown to wait overnight in a pumpkin patch for the Great Pumpkin, who never shows up. The strip is so clearly a rip-off of that sequence, I am surprised that he did not protest.
A part that makes this sequence interesting is that unlike Linus' benign desire to see a nonexistent creature; little Michael plans to trap a live creature. His motivations are a lot less pure than that of Linus.

I know. Back then, Lynn didn't shy away from making Michael a world class nuisance and all-around sullen, destructive jerk. She also provided us with strong hints as to the cause: a mother with decided difficulty dealing with petty frustrations who took out her baffled rage on her children. I wonder how much of that realism will survive the Reload this September.
Oh, I didn't even catch the Peanuts reference.
Then again, I wasn't even alive yet when this strip first ran.
Muzition,

Ah youth. I don’t know the exact dates or the collection of the strips for Peanuts for you to reference. The animated version of the story is described here pretty well.

That didn't work. Trying again.

I wouldn't be surprised if it is most of it. Lynn has certainly shown no signs of retracting her most offensive material in the reprints she has used so far.

No, she has not. This is the same woman who, after all, ran the "I'd love to to GO AWAY!!!!!!" strip a few weeks ago without caring how offensive it might seem to modern sensibilities.
