Let There Be Pizza on Earth

Today's reprint in For Better or For Worse, brings to mind a song:

Let there be pizza on earth
And let it begin with me;
Let there be pizza on earth,
The pizza that was meant to be.

With Lynn as our Creator
Pattersons all are we,
Let me eat with Elly’s brother
In perfect pepperoni.

Let pizza begin with me,
Let this be the moment now;
With every diet I break,
Let this be my solemn vow:

To take each pizza and eat each pizza
In pizza eternally.
Let there be pizza on earth
And let it begin with me.

That's a funny song; it's almost as funny as Elly thinking that she was defeated by her kid brother. As you know, Elly usually gets to shout, whine and simper her way into getting whatever stupid thing she wants ninety to ninety-five percent of the time. Her reaction to this victory is the same as to this rare instance in which she doesn't get her way: believing that she's been made the victim of male aggression again. It isn't that she's immediately disenchanted with what she pushed so hard to get, it's that people cheated her out of being satisfied.

Dreadedcandiru2,

Elly's reaction is interesting. She is the model of passive aggression. She says nothing, and yet both Phil and John act defensive around her as if she had said something.

howard,

It seems to me that both men are all-too-familiar with her default hostility and feelings of martyrdom owing to having been the focus of them for so long. They know what she's thinking because they've heard it all before.

I have had a sudden revelation. I know what she's thinking too, because I have read so many of these strips. I am just like Phil and John.

howard,

Same here. You just know she wants to whine about how her evil little brother and selfish husband kept her from helping everyone out by making them eat bland food. Does it matter that she started off by telling everyone they had to suffer along with her? Nope! By now, she's mentally rewritten history so as to make herself look like a selfless martyr instead of a pushy jerk.

Dreadedcandiru2,

On the other hand, it's kind of nice not to have the wall of text with Elly complaining and explaining why she is right and everyone else is wrong. Maybe Lynn should do more strips where Elly doesn't talk.

That's what could have helped save the strip! If only Elly had suffered the stroke, instead of Jim.....

Oh no! Then we would be innundated with thought balloons with bad puns. Grandpa Jim did them often enough. Imagine what Elly would be like. If Elly were in a coma, that would work.
