Food on the Wall Behind the Chair

I remember when my son got to the stage where he could feed himself. He was a voracious feeder, and would grab the food from his bowl and sling it towards his open mouth as rapidly as he possibly could. Most of the times he made it, but a lot of the time he didn’t and the food would end up covering most of his head. If he ate very vigorously, he would miss his head completely and hit the wall behind his high chair. We put a big plastic mat under the chair, but he still managed to miss his mouth and go further than the mat.

Unlike today’s For Better or For Worse, where little Lizzie is obviously not hungry and just playing with her food, my son was genuinely trying to feed himself when he would miss his mouth. Personally, I think it made it a lot cuter that he was trying to feed himself and covering himself with food in the process, than just having Lizzie sling food all over the place.

As for Dr. John Patterson, I am not sure what to make of new-run John. On the one hand, he seems to be taking a much more active role in feeding and diapering Lizzie that ever before, but on the other hand, he appears to be a gross incompetent while he is taking care of her. Is this Lynn Johnston trying to make John do the things he never did before back in 1979?

Probably. He's the same unpleasant person he used to be but now he's an incompetent assistant to his wife. The big difference is that she hasn't gotten all wounded by his taken offense at being called an imbecile or thrown a coffee cup at him when he complained. YET.

I forget when she started throwing the coffee cups, but it wasn't at the beginning. It will be interesting to see if Lynn picks that habit up again for new-run Elly.

*sigh* Forget 1979. This was cuter in the April-as-baby stage, with the "when will she figure out that her mouth is in the middle?" strip. Like Howard said, it's cuter if the kid is trying

Not even a retcon to smirk at today, so I don't even get that fun.

This is the real killer when it comes to modern Lynn repeating jokes or situations she has done before. She almost never does it better the second time.

That's why the whole blasted concept is so misguided; she's destroying her legacy for nothing. Nobody needs money that badly, do they?

It's difficult to say. Splitting half her assets may have put a scare into Lynn with respect to money. Before, she had the money she was making from her 2000+ papers and Rod’s money from his business. Now she has ½ her assets (probably a loss of a good chunk of change), whatever money she is getting from the papers she has left, and none of Rod’s money. Rod used to give her a weekly allowance, so she may have no concept of how wealthy she really is, only that she just lost a huge amount of money in a divorce that she previously considered to be all hers.

But did she lose a huge amount of money? The part that is confusing to me is how much did Rod Johnston get? After Rod sold his dentist business a few years ago, he is currently back in business as a dentist after his divorce. That implies that he didn’t get that much out of Lynn. After all, Rod quit being a dentist and I presumed it was for good, unlike Lynn, who seems to be unable to stop drawing her comic strip. I can't imagine him being back into dentistry, unless his motivation was financial need.

This tells me that she made a big mistake: growing dependent on a dependent. Even if all she los in the deal was an allowance and half the marital assets, she's pretty much a cautionary example now; when we want to demonstrate the imprtance of keeping your head in the game, we can always point to her.
