We’ve Made All the Arrangements

No negotiating with George Stibbs over price. No difficulties in Mike and Liz getting that loan. Not even a list of repairs John Patterson has to do in the Stibbs house before moving in.

Just boom! And “we’ve made all the arrangements.” Lynn Johnston has clearly decided the focus of the housening of For Better or For Worse will be April’s trauma over moving. In doing so, she has missed the big emotional drama, which has yet to occur, and may never occur --Telling the invisible grandchildren they’re staying. I want to know if Eddy and Dixie and Buttsy are staying now. Also, I think a prediction is in order. I predict April will see George Stibbs’ basement and will declare it to be even better than the situation she was previously in.

Heh--look what you did there. That's a pretty extreme version of "like belongs with like." ;)

I'm not entirely clear whether this renovation of the basement indicates that this is to be April's bedroom or just a rec room for her to use. I know John has that "sweet suite" comment in his letter, but even so, I think it's possible that she's not consigned to the basement. Or maybe that's just wishful thinking that the second bedroom won't be full of trains, trains, TRAAAAIIIINNNS.

. . . .Continuing from the previous entry.

I'm still working out in my head the approach/type of comic I'm interested in doing. To start, I'm leaning toward doing a 1x/week webcomic--probably something with an ensemble cast. A drama with humor to it. But NOT a FBoFW clone. ;)

Longer term, I have my eyes on the graphic-novel form. But I haven't really settled on a story I want to tell. Details, details, right?

aprilp_katje,

Mike and Liz. I am going to have to proofread better. I am getting in a very bad habit of writing rapidly and sometimes my fingers type in a familiar phrase instead of the one I had intended.

I would be very surprised if the "sweet suite" of a basement is not considered to be April's bedroom and not a rec room for her to use. It just adds another undetermined element to the ultimate place where April settles. John can't make up the sweet suite until after the Stibbs' place is theirs. She might stay with Mike and "Deanna" until the place is renovated and then in the meantime head off to Winnipeg and Auntie Bev for a permanent visit, which is an idea lurking in the back of my head since last year. I think the only reason Lynn Johnston has been unwilling to pin down a residence for April, is because she plans for April to be neither in John or Michael's house. In the letters when John originally thought of moving to the Stibbs' house, he had the idea of sending April off to France. The key ingredient in my mind is what happens with April's only ties to Milborough to keep that from happening, which are Gerald and 4Evah&Eva. Since we are focussing on April, the next step is to take her back to school, and then see what happens when she tries to whine about this to her friends and/or finally deal with the Gerald's gossip issue. If she and Gerald reconcile and 4Evah&Eva remains intact, then I think my Winnipeg theory is not going to go. If she breaks up with Gerald, and 4Evah&Eva is destroyed as a consequence, then I think she is headed to Winnipeg. I can't think of any other reason why Lynn would go through the trouble of having April break up with Gerald before September other than this.

As for your webcomic aspirations, my favourite one of the sort you describe is
http://www.girlgeniusonline.com/

The Foglios put out a new one on Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays, and then publish collections after they complete about 160 pages of storyline. If I were to do what you have proposed for yourself, they are the folks I would emulate.
