Time For More Girl Talk

The last time April and Liz had any kind of meaningful conversation in For Better or For Worse was when Liz told April she should tell Gerald to stuff it. Now that April has finally done something sort of kind of like that, we gather together Liz and April again for an honest (or at least as honest as a Patterson gets) conversation. I think the conversation will go something like this:

April: So this is what a single girl does for fun--watch your laundry get done at a Laundromat?

Elizabeth: It can be pretty exciting if you come here and then one of your students walks in while you are folding your undergarments. I looked bad then wearing glasses and a ratty t-shirt, but this time I am ready. I am completely glammed up and this shirt shows off my breasts.

April: You are seriously kinky when it comes to your students, Liz. Don’t you remember what happened with Jesse Mukwa?

Elizabeth: That was an unrelated event. I don’t think there is anything wrong with a student knowing his teacher wears nice underwear. So, did you ever tell your boyfriend Gerald to stuff it?

April:
Actually he broke up with me, when I told him I only wanted to play in our band for fun, and not for money,

Elizabeth: He broke up with you? Can someone do that to a Patterson?

April: Rhetta Blum did that with Mike.

Elizabeth: True, but Mike already had Deanna lined up to take his place.

April: Actually, we did agree for our paths to cross sometime in the future.

Elizabeth:
It’s good to keep your options open.

April: How are you and Anthony doing?

Elizabeth: It’s still incredibly hard to snuggle with him in a car. However, he has been working with me on my politeness. I don’t know if you noticed, but I asked you how you (are) doing? And I also came over to mom and dad’s house, to hang with the family, which I never do.

April: I had noticed you were acting differently, perhaps even nice. It was very strange.

Elizabeth: Yes. The things a girl has to do to get a guy to propose to her.

There's something that the people offsite missed while they were wondering where this would lead: Jim's back home from the hospital. I'd rather explore that than watch Lynn's lame take on sisterly bonding. Did Mike's book heal him with the magic of glurge? Did the doctors catch a really stupid example of over-medication? Whatever happened to him has got to be more exciting than this.

Careful what you wish for, dreadedcandiru2--when Lynn gets back to the Gramps storyline, it's nearly guaranteed to be excruciating!

I can bear any amount of pain as long as it's not lingering. It's the waiting and waiting to see what I should be disgusted by that's the tough part.

dreadedcandiru2,

If you are lucky, you will get to see it. Lynn Johnston is likely to have Grandpa Jim in the Sunset Manor, by the time we get back to him. April and Liz return home, and Elly says, "We managed to convince Grandpa Jim and Iris to move and we just took Grandpa Jim straight there. Iris cried a bit, but we know she is happier in the new place, because we promised not to tell Mike where it was, so he wouldn't come by and read his Grandpa anymore of his book."

Well, in that case we can finally say that Elly has done her daughterly duty. Not only has she taken care of Jim AND Iris's medical and emotional needs, she's removed a stress factor from their lives.

So Lynn is still throwing out strips to fill in the blanks in her story.

Elly is not taking care of Jim? Check.

Liz came home because she was homesick, yet she never interacted with her family. Okay, check; now this is taken care of since we have seen Liz say she is going to hang out with the family.

Next up: Anthony is going to have to do something really corny to prove he wasn't ACTUALLY after Liz all the time he was married. Liz, of course, has already wiped out any memory of Therese being jealous.

Right.

As many hints as the Lynnions have dropped, I would say Thérèse is bound to reappear to be smacked down before Anthony and Elizabeth get married. This would be a grand opportunity for Anthony to do just as you say.

We just won't see it happen, but we will be told about it.

But of course. Lynn's spent so much time not showing us what happened that it's what we've come to expect. Like it? No. Realize that's her thing now? Sadly, yes.

dreadedcandiru2,

I expect you are right. A dialogue-less panel in a daily strip would probably give me a heart attack from the shock.
